Iron manager Mark Robins hailed a ‘professional’ performance that saw United take all three points away from the Banks’s Stadium with a 4-1 win over Walsall.
The hosts had pressured United, testing the Iron thoroughly over the opening 20 minutes. After riding that, and an own goal to set Robins’ men on their way things began to look more comfortable against what he feels is a good side who try to play the right way.He told The Iron Player: “Eventually it became a convincing performance and a convincing win. We said before the game that Walsall are a good team, and they were a good team.
“Walsall try to play the right way. It was really, really difficult to play football today with the conditions and the pitch but Walsall try and do it, and they do it really well.
“They caused us problems and got into shooting opportunities but didn’t manage to take one so from their perspective they’ll feel aggrieved.
“When they went forward they looked a threat but then we got a grip of the game and ended up easy winners but it was by no means an easy afternoon.
“They were good. We weren’t great (in the first 20 minutes). When we had the ball we gave it straight back to them and at times we looked a little bit nervy.
“There were one or two new faces in there too which takes a little bit of time to get together but once they had I thought we were really good.
“It was a really good professional performance from ourselves without being scintillating.”
