ROBINS GEARING IRON UP FOR TYKES TRIP

25 November 2014

United manager Mark Robins called on his team to find a ruthless edge after the 2-2 away draw at Crawley Town on Saturday.

The away side had seemed set for an impressive victory in Sussex with quarter of an hour to play, until quick-fire goals from Dean Leacock and Izale McLeod saw them restricted to a point.

Throughout the course of the afternoon the visitors performed in a positive manner on a water-laden pitch, and Robins told The Iron Player: “I’ve seen some things which have been really good.

“We looked comfortable, moved the ball well, and got into their box fairly frequently. We’ve just got to kill teams off when we’re in that mood; that’s the thing we’ll develop and we’ll get better.

“I thought we were good value for the 2-0 lead, and really could have been one or two goals more to the good. It wasn’t to be, and we’ve got to take the point.

“We’ve got to be pleased with the point, and there was a bit of relief at the final whistle because we’ve shot ourselves in the foot a little bit.”

The Iron have now had a prolonged spell away from the home comforts of Glanford Park, with a trip to Robins’ former stomping ground Barnsley up next on Saturday.

Such a run of away games doesn’t faze the United manager given their resilient form on the road, as he explained: “It’s been good; we’ve won two and drawn one – and should have won [against Crawley] to make it three on the bounce but it isn’t.

“Next week is going to be a big challenge because they’re a really good side, and a different proposition. I’m sure we can get some work into the players this week, and go into the game against Barnsley in positive fashion.

“I look forward to every game. We’re improving all the time; we can get bogged down in what’s happened today but if you take a step back and look at the overall picture things aren’t too bad.

“We know there are things that need doing, and that it will take some time, but they’ll get done.”
