Iron striker Paddy Madden is expecting a tough game down at Yeovil this weekend but is confident that the squad can return with all three points.
Madden spent just over a year with the Somerset club and bagged 23 goals during the 2012-13 season as Yeovil secured promotion to the Championship through the third tier Play-Offs.And whilst he isn’t underestimating the difficulty of the challenge ahead, the Irishman believes United will go to Huish Park with confidence.
He told The Iron Player: “It will be a tough test. Yeovil are a hard team to play against, they’ll be well organised and difficult to break down.
“They got a good result against Walsall on Tuesday night so I’m expecting a hard game.
“It’s a tight ground, like our own, and we beat a lot of teams at home when I was there so it’ll be a tough place for us to go and play at but we need to go there with confidence and try to get our first three points on the board.
“It’s been a difficult start for us but I think we’re just in a bad patch at the minute so there’s no reason to be too negative.”
The Glovers picked up their first victory of the campaign during the midweek fixtures whilst United will travel down searching for their maiden league triumph of the new season.
Madden admitted he’s looking forward to making a return to his former club and is hoping to add to his seasonal goals tally at his old employers.
“It will be nice to go back down and see a few familiar faces,” he continued.
“It’s a place that I loved when I was down there and I was always treated with respect by the fans so I’m looking forward to it.
“I’ve scored one goal after three league games and I’d have hoped to have got a few more but I’m confident that they’ll come and hopefully that will start on Saturday.
“Despite the start we’ve had as a team, we’re only three games in and if you look at the table, we’re only six points off the Play-Offs so we have to be positive.
“It’s the only way we’re going to get out of this bad patch so we’ll go there full of confidence and hopefully we’ll get our first three points of the season and start climbing the table.”
Scunthorpe picked up an impressive 1-0 Capital One Cup win at Blackburn in the club’s previous away game thanks to Neal Bishop’s first half header.
Madden sees no reason why the team can’t pick up a similar result at Yeovil and believes that they all need to stick together to get the season on track.
He added: “We got a great win away at Blackburn in the cup so there’s no reason why we can’t go away to Yeovil and pick up three points.
“It’s just about having confidence in ourselves. We’re all good players and we need to show that on Saturday.
“We have to stick together. If we start getting our heads down and feeling sorry for ourselves then we’re just going to keep losing but Russ and Schofes have had us all busy around the place.
“We were full of spirit and that’s the way we should be. We’ll go into the game on Saturday full of confidence and let’s hope we get our first three points.”
Meanwhile, footballers and celebrities around the country have been helping to raise awareness of Motor Neurone disease by drenching themselves with buckets of ice cold water.
The disease affects around 5,000 people in the UK and after receiving a nomination from a former teammate, Madden was preparing to do his bit on Thursday afternoon.
“I got nominated by my mate Lee Miller who I played with at Carlisle and I’m going to do it after training (on Thursday).
“It’s for a good cause so I’m looking forward to it and I’ll donate a few quid to the charity as well because it’s a worthy cause.”
