RETURN DATE SET

16 May 2013

United manager Brian Laws has confirmed the day his squad will return for pre-season training.

They will be back on Thursday, June 27 as part of their preparations for the new League Two campaign, which gets underway on Saturday, August 3.

However, the players will be assessed ten days prior.

“The players return properly on June 27,” the boss told Scunthorpe-United.co.uk.

“But they will be back ten days prior to that for a testing day to see how they’ve been doing over the summer.

“We’ve given them targets and also a programme to adhere to, because it’s important they come back fit.

“So if they have successfully stuck to that, then great those players can return on June 27.

“Those players who fail it will see their pre-season start ten days earlier.”

Laws is hopeful of taking his players away for a bonding trip for a period during his side’s pre-season.

He believes it’s vital as he looks to create a strong team unit for what will be a new-look Scunthorpe squad.

“I think it’s key that we try and get away for three and four days for some team bonding, as that’s something we do try and encourage,” he continued.

“Hopefully once we the chairmanship is sorted out we can move forward and put the proposals to him.

“Hopefully then he will sanction it for us to get out there and not only do some training, but also some bonding together.”

Four pre-season matches have been confirmed so far, with one more date set to follow shortly once all the paperwork is finalised.

“We’re delighted that we’ve virtually ironed everything out for pre-season,” he stated.

“We’re just about sorted, there’s just one more that is penciled in and needs confirmation from the club.

“I’m very happy with the games we have coming.”
