A youthful Scunthorpe United side drew 1-1 at Winterton Rangers on Wednesday night.
Matt Godden had given his side a second half lead with a well-taken goal before a late leveller from the hosts sealed a share of the spoils.The Iron's starting line-up - featuring five youth team players - played the whole 90 minutes, with James Severn in goal, behind a defence marshalled by trialist Eugen Bopp, Callum Howe, Lewis Akeister and Callum Smythe.
The midfield consisted of Luke Hornsey, Fabio Snow, Billy Beresford and Brian Smikle, while Connor Jennings led the attack alongside Godden.
It was the latter two who were proving the greatest goal threat on the pitch in the first-half as both had chances to notch from close range, but were denied by ex-Iron goalkeeper Leigh Herrick.
Trialist Smikle, formerly of Cheltenham, also had an attempt which bobbled over.
Jennings and Godden linked up well for the latter to have a goal disallowed for offside as United continued to press.
Then, Godden's free-kick from 25 yards went marginally wide.
United started the second half with just as much intent and Bopp was next to come close, firing over the crossbar after cutting inside.
Jennings then delivered a low cross for first year trainee Smythe to send an effort over the bar from the edge of the area.
The deadlock was broken on 65 minutes as Jennings worked well down the left and sent in a low cross which wasn't cleared correctly - Godden was there to do the rest, volleying in from close range.
As both teams tired, it was Winterton who found the eventual equaliser as Josh Batty was played through and prodded past the advancing Severn in the dying stages.
Scunthorpe pushed for a winner, and Godden sent a late free-kick just wide as the game ended in a draw.
