United travel to Peterborough on Saturday afternoon, looking to make it three matches unbeaten on the road.
After a 3-0 win over Gillingham and a draw at Port Vale, Mark Robins’ men will be hoping to return to North Lincolnshire with the full three points.The Sky Bet League One clash against Darren Ferguson’s side sees two of our most recent starting XI unable to play against their parent club - Shaun Brisley and Bobby Olejnik - so Robins will have to make at least two changes.
Sam Slocombe is one of those likely to come into the team, making his first team comeback after a shoulder injury which has kept him out since August.
Miguel Llera could come into the centre of defence in place of Brisley. The Spaniard (along with Slocombe) played in the reserves’ 6-0 win over Burton Albion in midweek and the weekend could see him make his tenth professional appearance for the Iron.
Neal Bishop and Jennison Myrie-Williams will be back in contention after serving suspensions.
Bishop had accumulated five bookings this season while Myrie-Williams was sent off at Port Vale after he was shown two yellow cards.
Luke Williams impressed on his debut in last weekend’s match with Notts County and he could retain his spot, although he will be pushed by forward Billy Kee, after Robins admitted he had given him food for thought after he netted in the Burton win.
Rory Fallon is one definite absence as Robins waits to find out the seriousness of the New Zealand forward’s injury. He also said Eddie Nolan is another week or two away from a comeback so he will not be in the travelling squad.
“Hopefully I have no other injury concerns,” Robins told The Iron Player, previewing the clash.
“I hope we will go to London Road and give a really good account of ourselves.
“I’m looking forward to the game, they’ve had some work done to the stands and there’s a lot of building work going on at Peterborough.
“It’s a good club and they’re always in and around the play-offs so it will be a good test for us.”
The Posh, who finished last season with silverware after lifting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley, are currently fifth in the League One table.
They host the Iron on the back of two consecutive losses - first to Crewe and last weekend to Coventry - and they are one of the favourites for promotion to the second tier of English football.
They were last in the Sky Bet Championship as recently as the 2012/13 season and Ferguson will be keen to return sooner rather than later.
The only former Iron player in their ranks is midfielder Grant McCann, who needs no real introduction to fans of the Claret and Blue.
The Northern Irishman made 113 appearances for Scunthorpe in two-and-a-half years at Glanford Park, before leaving in 2010.
He was part of the 2008/09 play-off winning side which helped us get promotion to the Championship, something he repeated with the Posh two years later.
Saturday’s meeting will be the 53rd between the two clubs, with the Iron previously coming out on top 21 times. There have been 15 matches ending in draws and Peterborough have won on 16 occasions.
The last meetings came in the 2009/10 season, when we lost 3-0 on the road before getting revenge five months later with a 4-0 victory at Glanford Park. Garry Thompson, who played against us last weekend, bagged a double with Paul Hayes and Sam Togwell also getting on the score sheet. Current Scunthorpe players Marcus Williams, Matt Sparrow, David Mirfin and Niall Canavan were in the squad that day - all started except Canavan, who was 18 years old at the time.
