PREVIEW: LINCOLN CITY (H)

23 July 2014

The Iron will play their first home game of pre-season on Wednesday evening, when they host Lincoln City in the semi-final of the Lincolnshire Cup.

Russ Wilcox will field a strong team at Glanford Park, as well as sending a team to play Carlton Town at the same time. The kick-off for both of the Iron’s friendlies will be 7.00pm.

David Mirfin is a certain absentee from both games, after he underwent an operation on his cartilage on Friday.

United continued their good start to pre-season with a 2-1 win at Gainsborough this weekend and they will be looking to continue that in the fixture with the Imps.

Sam Winnall, Deon Burton and Paddy Madden have found the net already in pre-season and they will be looking to carry that on this week, with Lyle Taylor also hoping to get off the mark.

City currently play in the Conference Premier, and have done so since relegation from the Football League in 2011. They finished 14th last season and are currently managed by Gary Simpson, a former midfielder, mostly outside of the Football League, and a former manager of Gainsborough and Macclesfield.

The Imps defeated our fellow League One side Chesterfield in a friendly on Saturday, as they ran out 2-1 winners at Sincil Bank, and Russ Wilcox will be hoping Lincoln cannot make it two wins from two against League One opposition.

If you cannot make the game, why not check Scunthorpe-United.co.uk and our Facebook and Twitter accounts for regular updates.
