The Iron host Leyton Orient at the weekend, looking to make it four wins on the bounce at Glanford Park.
After beating Walsall and Coventry in the league and Chesterfield in the JP Trophy, Russ Wilcox’s men are steadily hoping to turn Glanford Park into a fortress and we welcome Orient, whose manager Russell Slade is under pressure to win, to save himself from the axe.It’s been made quite public that the London club’s new Italian owners have given the fourth longest-serving boss in England’s four divisions an ultimatum, after a tough start to the Sky Bet League One campaign.
It comes just months after Slade’s side led 2-0 in the play-off final at Wembley, before Rotherham miraculously turned it around to win on penalties.
The summer saw the O’s make impressive signings, such as Championship standard players like Darius Henderson, Jobi McAnuff, goalkeeper Adam Legzdins and Shane Lowry.
The club, who play their football at Brisbane Road, named the Matchroom Stadium for sponsorship reasons, have had an indifferent start to the campaign, winning once and drawing 4 times, including Tuesday night when they were on the road at Notts County.
The Iron, however, will be full of confidence after beating Coventry in midweek and they could welcome Eddie Nolan and Neal Bishop back into the reckoning.
Lyle Taylor came into the team for the visit of Steven Pressley’s side and, after scoring and showing good link-up play with Paddy Madden throughout, he is expected to start alongside the Irish forward once again.
Russ Wilcox has stated his frustration at times this season after not being able to field the same XI for consecutive games due to injuries and suspensions and Saturday could see him do it for the first time in the 2014/15 campaign.
It will be the 52nd meeting between the two clubs, with the last coming in 2013.
The Iron have come out on top 15 times, drawing and losing to the O’s 18 times each.
We met twice in the 2012/13 season in League One, doing the double over them. First, on the road we won 3-1 with thanks to second-half goals from Christian Ribeiro, Karl Hawley and Damien Mozika, and then at Glanford Park. It was 2-1, with Akpo Sodje and Niall Canavan finding the back of the net for the Iron.
