The Iron have the opportunity to bounce back from their defeat at Chesterfield with a clash at Glanford Park on Tuesday evening.
Coventry City are the visitors to North Lincolnshire for the eighth game of the Sky Bet League One campaign and it gives Russ Wilcox’s men the chance to make amends from the defeat at the Proact Stadium.Speaking at his Monday press conference, the manager confirmed some team news, whilst also keeping his selection cards close to his chest.
“We have no fresh injury worries,” a relieved boss said - something he hasn’t asserted on many occasions this season.
“Eddie Nolan and Neal Bishop, who missed out on Saturday, probably aren’t going to be with us.
“They’re touch and go but I’d say they aren’t likely to be involved. We’ll go with what we’ve got, there’s still quality there.”
Long-term absences Dave Syers, David Mirfin, Sam Slocombe and James Severn continue to be sidelined, but the manager had some good news about Deon Burton, who will still miss the clash.
The forward will undergo sugar-based injections to speed up the healing process of his medial ligament injury.
The Claret and Blue boss has been unhappy at the fixture congestion in the opening weeks of the season, but this time the quick turnaround is beneficial for his side to recover from a damaging defeat.
“There’s always another chance because there’s always another game to go at,” he said.
“That’s the way I look at it and when you come off the back of any defeat, you want to get back out there and especially being at home, with us winning our last two, it gives us a chance to make this place a hard one to come to.”
Coventry have had a good start to the campaign, following a season where they started on minus ten points, and they currently lie fifth in the Sky Bet League One table. They have lost just once in the league so far, on the opening day of the season at Bradford.
This season also marked the club’s return to the Ricoh Arena, after a season of infamously playing at Northampton Town.
It will be just the 12th meeting between the Iron and the Sky Blues, having previously drawn three with Coventry winning four meetings and United winning five.
The last of those meetings came in the 2012/13 season in League One. We won 2-1 at the Ricoh before losing by the same scoreline when Cov visited Glanford Park.
The weekend match saw Coventry beat Yeovil 2-1 from home and the September 16 clash sees them arrive at Glanford Park in confidence, while United will be keen to make amends for Saturday and keen to preserve their two-match winning run at home.
