PREVIEW: BRADFORD CITY (A)

19 December 2014

The Iron will look to extend their unbeaten run when they travel to Bradford City on Saturday.

United climbed out of the bottom four for the first time this season when they beat Crewe 2-1 at Glanford Park and they will go to the Coral Windows Stadium hoping to extend their run on the road.

Mark Robins’ men are unbeaten in their last seven on the road, while Phil Parkinson’s City have lost five fixtures on home turf in Sky Bet League One.

Some of the Iron squad may be feeling a little fatigued after playing 120 minutes at Worcester on Wednesday, when United won 14-13 in a record-breaking FA Cup penalty shootout.

Robins will be able to welcome back some of the loan players who were unavailable in midweek.

While Chelsea’s Alex Davey was given permission to play, Liam O’Neil, Luke Williams and Richard Brindley were not given the green light to play by their respective clubs, so they could be back in contention.

It is a quick turnaround for Robins’ men and the manager and his staff will assess the squad for any knocks in the run up to the 3 o’clock kick-off.

The Bantams are currently 10th in Sky Bet League One, seven points ahead of the Iron, who have a game in hand.

City finished 11th in League One last term and they famously reached the final of the Capital One Cup in 2013, after an impressive run saw them beat Arsenal and Aston Villa en route to Wembley. They were runners-up to Swansea City.

The meeting between the Claret and Blue and the Bantams is the first since 2007.

We met three times in the 2006/07 campaign, once in the Football League Trophy, then twice in League One. The Iron won the first match (FL Trophy) 2-1 and the second 1-0, both at the Coral Windows Stadium, before winning 2-0 at Glanford Park. Billy Sharp and Jermaine Beckford scored the two goals in the latter fixture.

It will be the 48th competitive fixture between the two clubs, with the Iron winning 21 of those, drawing 12 and losing 14 times.
