The Iron travel to Barnsley on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run on the road to six matches.
The 2-2 draw at Crawley last weekend meant the Claret and Blue have not lost in their last five fixtures away from home in all competitions.The clash at Oakwell is a 3pm kick-off and a win could see United rise up and out of the Sky Bet League One relegation zone.
Andrew Boyce picked up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out at Crawley, so he will be absent from the Iron’s 18th league match of the season.
Miguel Llera will be assessed ahead of the match. He was stretchered off in the draw at the Checkatrade.com Stadium with ankle bruising. He had previously started United’s last three matches.
Eddie Nolan will also be looked over by the physios, after a recurring ankle injury caused him to miss the Crawley match, with Terry Hawkridge filling in and impressing at right-back in his absence.
West Brom’s Liam O’Neil made a positive impact alongside Neal Bishop on his debut, while forwards Lyle Taylor and Paddy Madden both found the back of the net.
New loan arrival Richard Brindley will be available for selection after arriving from Rotherham on Tuesday. The 21-year-old has played over 30 professional matches in his career since coming through the ranks at Norwich City.
Elsewhere, centre-back Alex Davey will also be available after signing on loan until January 3 from Chelsea on Wednesday night.
The Sky Bet League One fixture could also see Sam Winnall come up against his former club for the first time since leaving Glanford Park in the summer.
Winnall bagged the Sky Bet League Two golden boot last season as he fired United to promotion, scoring 23 times in 49 appearances.
Since his summer move to Oakwell, he has scored on nine occasions in 21 games, including a hat-trick against Burton in the FA Cup.
The trip also represents a return to Oakwell for Mark Robins. He spent just under two seasons at the South Yorkshire club, steering them away from relegation from the Championship in his first campaign.
The Tykes are currently 13th in Sky Bet League One and have lost 5 of their last ten league matches, including last weekend, when Derbyshire rivals Chesterfield beat them 2-1 at the Proact.
Saturday’s clash is the 37th competitive meeting between Barnsley and United. Scunthorpe have won 13, drawn seven and lost 16.
The last meeting came as recently as 2013/14, in the first round of the Capital One Cup. After a 0-0 draw at Oakwell, Barnsley advanced to the next round after winning 5-4 on penalties.
The latest win against the Reds was in 2010, when Gary Hooper and Paul Hayes found the back of the net at Glanford Park to give the Claret and Blue a 2-1 win in the Championship.
That was the third meeting of the 2009/10 season - Hayes had previously scored in both of the other matches to beat them 1-0 in the FA Cup and draw 1-1 at Oakwell.
