PLAYERS BACK FOR TESTING

20 June 2013

United manager Brian Laws was delighted to announce that his entire first team squad, who returned for a one-off training session on Thursday, passed their fitness tests.

The 18-man squad had been set a strict routine by Brian Laws and his coaching staff throughout the summer to ensure they were in peak fitness ahead of the 2013-14 League Two season.

"I'm delighted with the pre-season tests. Obviously we are a week ahead of schedule because the players are not due back officially until the 27th of June," the United manager said.

Prior to the summer break, Laws requested that the players came into training a week early to see if they had continued to train throughout the summer.

He added: "We brought them in a week early to make sure that they are on top of their game and that they have kept to the schedules that we asked them to.

"I am delighted to say that they have done. I did not expect anybody to fail. It proves to me that the players are in the right frame of mind and they have been doing the work that we asked them to do," Laws added.

The United boss, who has been working hard throughout the summer to strengthen his squad, always had faith in his players that they would return to training in a good condition.

Laws said: "They all passed the bleep test quite easily and that shows that they understand where we are coming from with the work that we are giving them. Hopefully they will come back next week ready and raring to go."
