NOLAN RE-SIGNS FOR THE IRON

30 May 2014

Defender Eddie Nolan has penned a new one-year contract with the Iron.

The versatile full-back made 40 appearances during last year's League Two promotion season.

The Irishman had initially signed for Scunthorpe in the summer of 2010 from Preston North End on loan where he made 22 appearances. Nolan's debut came in a 2-1 win over Reading in August 2010.

His stay at the club was made permanent in January 2011 after which he made 43 appearances and scored one goal.

However, former boss Alan Knill decided to release Nolan at the end of the 2011-12 season and after almost a year as a free agent, Scunthorpe took him on again.

Nolan began his career at Blackburn Rovers after impressing through his youth career at the club. In his second season as a professional he was a regular in the reserves and made his debut in a UEFA Cup tie against AS Nancy in December 2006.

Various short-term loan deals followed at Stockport, Hartlepool and finally Preston. North End decided to sign Nolan permanently in January 2009 after impressing during his  3-month loan period.

He has been capped at all levels for the Republic of Ireland, making three appearances for the senior side.
