NESS AIMING FOR MORE MINUTES

8 December 2015

Iron midfielder Jamie Ness made his return to the Iron side in the second half on Saturday - after an injury lay-off meant he hadn’t featured since the end of September.

United were forced into an FA Cup replay after neither they or Leyton Orient found a way to break the deadlock at Brisbane Road.

Ness was disappointed to not get the win on the day, but says he and his teammates are ready for the replay.

“It's disappointing really that we didn’t get the win,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“It was a difficult game with difficult conditions, and they probably adapted to it better than us.

“The good thing is we still have a chance in the replay, and hopefully we can get into the next round.”

Ness was quick to say he didn’t feel the team showed the dominance a side from the league above the O’s would expect.

“I don’t think we really showed what we are about on the day," he stated.

"We didn’t get the ball down and play, and obviously in these conditions we need to be better than that – hopefully we will get the chance to do that at home.

“Even though we didn’t particularly play our best we didn’t concede, which is always a positive, and hopefully we can build on that and keep the clean sheets coming.

“We know we have the ability, it’s just about transferring that onto the pitch.”

Ness was happy to get back out on to the pitch, but says he needs a couple more weeks to reach the fitness levels of his teammates.

He said: “I’m a bit rusty still. It’s been a frustrating few weeks (personally) so it was nice to get back out there, and hopefully I’ll get some more minutes on Saturday.”

Port Vale host United on Saturday in what is a fantastic chance for the team to start a run similar to the one in October that saw Mark Robins named manager of the month.

“It will be a difficult game (on Saturday) because they are playing quite well at their place, but it’s one we are looking forward to, especially after the last league game," he concluded.
