MATHIESON FOR OXFORD CLASH

20 April 2014

Scott Mathieson will be in charge of our Easter Monday clash against Oxford United, it has been confirmed.

The Cheshire referee has enjoyed a 17-year-long career at the top of the Football League and his experience will be key for the Glanford Park clash, where Oxford will be looking to secure their place in the SkyBet League Two play-offs.

It will be his 29th game of the 2013/14 campaign, having given out 92 yellows and seven reds in fixtures across SkyBet League Two, League One, Championship, FA Cup and JP Trophy.

He is yet to referee the Iron or the U’s this year, having refereed us once, and the latter twice last season.

Good Friday’s fixtures saw him as fourth official for Port Vale’s home match with MK Dons, most recently taking charge of Newport’s home fixture with Plymouth as the latter left south east Wales 2-1 winners.

In that 2012/13 campaign, he brandished 105 yellows and eight reds in 38 games.

He started out in the Football League, running the lines before being promoted into the middle four years later and his career highlight includes refereeing the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final between Southampton and Carlisle.

"Wembley was a great experience for myself and my fellow officials,” he told the Football League website in their Men In Black feature. “We were all really well looked after and we couldn't have asked for more support. It really was greatly appreciated."

When not working as a joiner, redeveloping properties in Manchester, Mathieson likes to play racquet sports to get away from his work commitments:  tennis, badminton and squash, usually against his wife.

Mathieson will be assisted by Ken Haycock and Paul Hobday and Nigel Smith will be his fourth official.
