MADDEN EYES A POSITIVE RESPONSE

1 September 2015

Iron striker Paddy Madden says the squad are disappointed to let a two goal lead slip, but will be working hard to ensure they return to winning ways against Blackpool next Saturday at Glanford Park.

Madden scored his fourth goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with Colchester United and he says the draw puts a slight dampner on his strike.

"Strikers judge themselves on how many goals they score and it's another for myself," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"It's obviously nice to get the goal, but we're all hurting now because we've thrown away a two-goal lead."

"It's a positive that we've got our first away point of the season," he added.

"However, we've let a two goal lead slip and we need to start defending as a group better.

"We've got a good group in there and we know that we all make mistakes."

Kevin van Veen opened his account for the season with a spectacular 30-yard free-kick and Madden is pleaed that the Dutchman is up and running for the campaign.

"It's nice for Kevin to get that goal, because we all know that he's got that in the locker," he explained.

"The move to English football is new for him and we're all trying to help him along as much as we can."

The Iron striker says the only way to bounce back is to put in a good performance when Blackpool visit Glanford Park this weekend.

He also thanked the supporters for their continued support and stated that the squad will look to put in a positive display for them.

"We want to thank the fans who've travelled down and they'll always stick with us like they always do," he stated.

"We're going to be working hard in training throughout the week, which I think we need to do.

"We've got to go out and give a good performance for the fans against Blackpool and we'll look to do that."
