Miguel Llera’s injury will not keep him out of action long according to assistant manager Ned Kelly.
The news was delivered on Tuesday lunchtime, just three days after he was stretchered off in the 2-2 draw with Crawley Town with the worst feared on the day.However, after checks at the hospital, Kelly feels he won’t be out for too long.
“Miguel is coming along very well,” he told The Iron Player.
“Fortunately, touch wood, it was a kick – a nasty kick – but nothing too sinister. We’re hopeful he might train before the weekend, but he won’t be out for much longer.
"Whether he makes the weekend or not, we’re not sure at the moment.
“He’s resting and having treatment with Darren and the medical staff and he’s working hard with his recovery, but we’re not sure whether he’ll be able to feature against Barnsley.”
He added: “He went to hospital for precautionary reasons and there were no long term or serious damage, which was a big relief to everybody – none more so than Miguel.”
If Llera is absent from the game, United will be enforced into at least two changes with both of those come in the central defensive area with Andrew Boyce also absent from the game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.
“We’ve got until Thursday to try and make a move for somebody else,” said Kelly.
“We’ll see how the week progresses, but other players we have at the football club are capable of playing in that area so if Miguel doesn’t make it, we will adapt which is what you have to do.”
He added: “We’d be foolish not to be actively looking at other players and speaking to agents and other clubs. We want to evolve this team and make it as good as we possibly can.”
