Cody McDonald and Ryan Jackson had cancelled out Deji Oshilaja’s own goal, but James Collins levelled to claim a point for Shrewsbury.
Burton maintained the pressure on the top two with an emphatic 5-1 triumph against managerless Colchester, who sacked Tony Humes in the week.
They had to come from behind, but Abdenasser El Khayati, Mark Duffy, Tom Naylor, Lucas Akins and Timmy Thiele sealed an easy win.
Walsall ended Bradford’s long unbeaten run, defeating them 2-1 to maintain their own promotion push, while dropping the visitors out of the top six.
Lee Evans had cancelled out Tom Bradshaw’s opener, but Walsall restored their lead thanks to Milan Lalkovic to stay fourth.
Wigan remain in sixth place as they were forced to settle for a goalless draw at Southend, who are just outside in eighth.
At the bottom, Barnsley dropped to the foot of the table despite a last minute goal earning them a point against Sheffield United.
The Blades had led for most of the game thanks to a Chris Basham goal, but Conor Hourihane struck late on to claim a point.
Crewe leapfrogged them as they secured a 1-0 win at home to fellow strugglers Oldham, with Adam King getting the goal.
It was a similar story for Blackpool, with a 1-0 win over Fleetwood ending their recent poor run of form and moving them into 22nd.
Swindon climbed away from the bottom four, winning 4-0 away to Chesterfield, who have since parted company with Dean Saunders.
Nicky Ajose netted twice, with Louis Thompson and Jon Obika also netting for the Robins as thye climbed to 17th.
Meanwhile, Rochdale came from a goal down to beat Port Vale 2-1 at home. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored the winner 12 minutes from time.
Also, Millwall kept their play-off charge going thanks to a 1-0 win against Bury, with Shaun Williams netting the only goal in the first half.
Next week sees a return to FA Cup action for the Iron, with Mark Robins’ side travelling to Leyton Orient hoping to progress to the third round.
