LEAGUE ONE REVIEW: MATCHDAY 9

22 September 2014

Elsewhere in Sky Bet League One on Saturday September 20, we saw a lot of movers in the table as a full programme of fixtures took place.

Early pace-setters Bristol City drew 3-3 on the road at Fleetwood Town. Stephen Dobbie’s late goal rescued the Cod Army a point. Keiran Agard scored twice and Aaron Wilbraham was on the score sheet once again for the Reds. Josh Morris and Jamie Proctor were Fleetwood’s other scorers on the day.

There was a seven goal thriller at the County Ground as Swindon beat Sheffield United 5-2. Michael Smith scored a double before Jonathan Obika made it 3-0. Mark McNulty and Ben Davies netted twice for the Blades to give them hope, before Andy Williams and Louis Thompson put the game out of reach and gave Mark Cooper’s side the three points.

There was also seven goals at Stadium MK, when MK Dons beat basement side Crewe 6-1. There were two goals inside seven minutes, as Dele Ali put Dons in front before Crewe levelled when Kyle McFadzean put through his own net. 18-year-old Ali, who signed a new contract with Dons in midweek, is highly rated and he went on to show why by completing a hat-trick. Ben Reeves made it six on 90 mins and Benik Afobe and Will Grigg were also scorers for Karl Robinson’s side.

Managerless Port Vale beat Barnsley 2-1 at Vale Park. Micky Adams left the Valiants in midweek and former Iron captain Michael O’Connor bagged the opening goal. Conor Hourihane levelled the sides from the spot and Mark Marshall scored late to snatch the victory.

Doncaster beat Chesterfield 3-2 at the Keepmoat. Nathan Tyson, Kyle Bennett and Jamie McCombe netted for Rovers. Former Mansfield man Sam Clucas scored for the Spireites and Eoin Doyle also scored once, his seventh goal in three games. It saw him miss the chance to make the headlines by scoring three consecutive hat-tricks.

Bailey Wright and Joe Garner scored for Preston when they beat Crawley 2-0 at Deepdale.

There were 1-0 home wins for both Rochdale and Yeovil, when they played Coventry and Peterborough respectively.

There were goalless draws when Colchester played Bradford, Gillingham hosted Walsall and when Notts County played Oldham.
