United travel to Port Vale on Tuesday evening hoping to pick up consecutive league victories on the road and winger Jennison Myrie-Williams is confident the squad can do just that.
Goals from Paddy Madden, Neal Bishop and Gary McSheffrey secured a 3-0 win at Gillingham in the club’s last trip and three more away points could see Scunthorpe climb out of the League One relegation places.Myrie-Williams arrived at Glanford Park from Vale over the summer and believes the Iron have what it takes to triumph over his former side.
He told The Iron Player: “It’ll be a very tough game but if we go out there with the right attitude and keep progressing the way we have done then I’m sure it’s one we can win.
“We’re at the wrong end of the table at the moment, there’s no hiding from that and we need as many points as possible from whatever game we’re playing.
“I think it’s a game we can win and it’s one we’re looking forward to.
“We want to go there and get the three points so if we can do that then we’ll be very happy.”
The wide man joined Vale in the summer of 2012, after an earlier loan spell, and spent two years with the Staffordshire based club before penning a deal at United last June.
He admits he’s looking forward to going back to his old stomping ground and hopes Scunthorpe can build on the previous two league results.
“I’m looking forward to going back but for me it’s just another game,” he added.
“It’s a game that I want to go out and win first and foremost, play well and help the team.
“It’ll be very noisy and the Port Vale fans will get right behind their team but if we go there and get an early goal then that will quieten them down.
“The last two results give us something to build on. We’ve won one and drawn one and I think if we go and attack on Tuesday night then we’ll get a positive result.”
More than a week has passed now since Mark Robins took over as the club’s manager and the players have steadily been getting used to the new era in North Lincolnshire.
Myrie-Williams stated that the players know exactly what they have to do to put themselves in contention for a place in the side and insisted that the main aim now is to pick up points and move up the table.
He added: “He’s come in and told us exactly what he wants from us from day one.
“He’s asked for high standards in training so there’s so grey area with him.
“Everyone knows what they need to do if they want to play and that’s what all the players are trying to do.
“Now we need to focus on picking up positive results and moving up that league table.”
