IT'LL BE A TOUGH START

17 June 2015

Following this morning’s fixture release, manager Mark Robins has given his verdict on the Iron’s start to the campaign.

United travel to the Pirelli Stadium to face newly-promoted Burton Albion, with the Champions of League Two looking to make an impact in their first-ever season in English football’s third tier.

“It’ll be a tough start,” he said.

“They’ve just come up so they’ll have a bit of momentum behind them and we’re going to a decent stadium and it’s a place we drew 2-2 in our first visit there. The pitch will be outstanding and it’ll be a tough start, as all of the games will be, but we will look forward to it.

“We obviously got given Barnsley at home in the League Cup, which was announced on Tuesday, and it’s another one to look forward to. I’ve had a quick scan through the fixtures and it stands out that we’ve got Doncaster Rovers away on Boxing Day and Wigan Athletic at home on January 2”

Now the order in which the 23 other league teams will be played in has been confirmed, preparations begin to properly get going, with plans made and analysis done on the relevant games.

“It’s one of those where you sit and wait for the fixtures, but when you’ve got them and with the players we have recruited, everyone will be ready and raring to go by the start of the season,” he continued.

“Everyone will be saying the same thing up and down the country; they want to hit the ground running.

“We want a good pre-season to stand us in good stead and we will be chomping at the bit by the time the date for the first fixture comes round.

“We will be doing a tour in pre-season and we also have some tough games in pre-season and with the likes of Bolton Wanderers and some yet to be announced to the public, along with training in some warm weather will give us a good chance

“We’ll have a busy start to pre-season, but we are looking forward to it and the players will return in good shape. We will certainly be looking to hit the ground running.”
