IT HAS BEEN GOOD BUSINESS

5 July 2013

United boss Brian Laws says wheeling and dealing efficiently is the key as he looks to mould a promotion-winning squad.

With Callum Kennedy and Mike Grella already venturing on to pastures new - and with Mark Duffy expected to join them in the future - Laws insists the club are still working to a strict budget.

"Again balancing the budget is key and you have to look at how we have approached it this year. We have taken a risk, for sure,". Laws said.

"By bringing those players in early we have overloaded the budget because the players that we felt could move on have not actually moved on at this moment in time.

"The risk is that if anything falls through then it becomes a financial burden. I felt it was a good risk to take and it allowed us to bring the players in early."

With movement upstairs at the football club as well as on the pitch, Laws was delighted to announce that the Iron's chairman Peter Swann has been supporting him fully since he joined the club.

He added: "We are pleased with that and the chairman has backed it but we have to continue to work to the tight budget. It has been good business.

"The players have been working exceptionally hard. We have been doing double sessions every day. Speaking to all of the players they have never been worked as hard."

Laws added: "That is refreshing to hear and that is what we wanted. We need to get them in prime condition ahead of the new season."
