United manager Russ Wilcox has confirmed at least six players will retain their place in the team against Chesterfield on Tuesday.
Scunthorpe take on the Spireites in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at 7.45pm at Glanford Park."The new rules of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy mean we either have to play six players from Saturday or 70% of the squad who have played the most games," Wilcox explained to The Iron Player.
"There are two scenarios, but I think I'll go with the first one."
He stated: "It's a competition where there is a chance of getting right through and winning it.
"We'll be taking the competition seriously.
"We have a few bumps and bruises from Saturday but we'll see where we are.
"There are a few knocks from the weekend but we'll assess them and pick the team on Tuesday unfortunately.
"Chesterfield have started really well. They have a good manager in Paul Cook and I like the way they play.
"I think League One will really suit them. Though I think a lot of it depends on your fixtures at certain periods.
"We've had a tough start against a lot of teams that will probably finish in the top six.
"Chesterfield have had a fantastic start and that breeds confidence. They picked up a terrific win at Port Vale at the weekend.
"They will come here wanting to do well, having got to the final last year.
"They have also got a ten game rest after this game as well, because their match on Saturday has been postponed due to international call-ups.
"Their next league game will be against ourselves at the Proact Stadium on September 13.
"I have to have half an eye on Saturday at Bristol City but they can go all out for it, all guns blazing, because they have a ten day rest after."
Looking further ahead to Saturday, Wilcox expects a tough test at Ashton Gate.
He said: "They are a definite top six team for me. Their squad is amazing and there are Championship players in there. They are a powerful team and it's going to be a really tough game.
"We've done very well against Blackburn and Reading - who are two Championship teams though.
"We'll go there respecting Bristol City because they are a really good outfit but we'll also try and play our game as well."
