IRON FAN IN LINE FOR AWARD

20 August 2012

A fanatical Scunthorpe United follower is bringing colour to the beautiful game with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

This comes after being shortlisted from hundreds of fellow fans to win a supporter of the year award.

Max Bell was one of more than 500 fans to be entered into the trophy’s ‘Colourful Character’ competition which aims to showcase the most devoted die-hard anywhere in the Football League.

To honour Johnstone’s Paints’ pallet of 16,000 colours, anyone who is suitably vibrant and has left a lasting impression with their clubs has been urged to put their name forward to win the Colourful Character award.

And following a painstaking shortlisting process, Max has made the grade and is now a step closer to scooping the prestigious accolade.

Max will now be on www.johnstonespainttrophy.com for people to register their support for, with the closing date for all votes on Friday August 31.

He was nominated by friend George Reid who said: “Max is a fantastic organiser of trips to see The Mighty Iron, even going to Ireland for a pre-season tour. He spends all of his money on the football, runs his own Scunthorpe United blog with a friend, has a genuine love and pride in his hometown.”

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Megan Esmond said: “Over the past six years we have seen so many die-hard fans go to extraordinary lengths to support their teams.

“With that in mind, we thought that a competition to find the most ‘Colourful Character’ would be a great idea.

“We’ve had hundreds of entries, all from deserving supporters with some memorable tales to tell, so the process of shortlisting six has been incredibly tough – and enjoyable.

“We hope everyone will get voting for who they think is the most deserving candidate and we will look forward to crowning the winner before the Big Kick-Off!”

The winner will receive the sought-after accolade as well as £250 worth of paint to decorate their home – which now comes in Scunthorpe United colours.
