IN CONFIDENT MOOD HEADING TO WIGAN

19 August 2015

Iron boss Mark Robins feels his side can get a positive result at Wigan, if they play to their full capabilities.

United will head into the game with confidence after they secured their first win of the season against Crewe at the weekend, and Robins is looking forward to the test.

He told The Iron PlayerHD: “It has been a good week's training because we have come in off the back of a good win and a clean sheet.

“Being at the DW Stadium in Wigan is fantastic for us because it is a really good stadium and the pitch is also fantastic.

“We are facing top quality opposition that I fancy to go and win the league so it will be a good test for us.

“We managed to get our first three points on Saturday, but we know we are still nowhere near producing what we are capable of so we want to get there as quickly as possible.

“Playing against Wigan gives us the chance to do just that as well as get some more points on the board.

“They have really good players in their squad and, given a fair run, they will certainly be up there at the end of the season. It is early days and we've just got to go there without fear and play our game.”

The Iron boss confirmed that he has no new injury concerns ahead of the trip to Lancashire, with Stephen Dawson also pushing for a recall.

His side will also be boosted by a backing of over 300 supporters, with many more expected to make the journey, and Robins hoped for a performance to match.

He said: “The supporters play a big part because we are looking for a vocal support, and away from home that is always important.

“Having said that, we have to respond properly because we took 1,000 to Burton and it wasn't the best of spectacles.

“I'm confident that we will go there on Wednesday and put a decent performance on.

"If we can go there and play to our qualities then we should have a favourable outcome.”
