United centre half Callum Howe has joined Vanarama Conference Premier Division side Gateshead on an initial month's loan.
Howe, who came through the ranks of the Scunthorpe United academy, didn't feature for the Iron last season in their promotion season, making loan spells to Gainsborough Trinity in the process. He was retained in the summer for a further year but is still yet to make his debut for United three months into the season. He joins the Tyne and Wear outfit to bolster their defence with them currently poised in second place in the league table, just behind Barnet.
In going out on loan, he becomes the third Iron player to be out of the building at non-league clubs on loan, with Luke Waterfall and Curtis Bateson at Macclesfield Town and Gainsborough Trinity respectively.
