HOPPER SIGNS ON LOAN

8 January 2015

United have completed the loan signing of Leicester City striker Tom Hopper.

The forward is in contention for Saturday's away game at Walsall and will be here until February 3.

The 21-year-old started his career at Boston United and became the Pilgrims' youngest ever player, when aged 15 he featured in the UniBond League Premier Division.

In the summer of 2010, Hopper signed for Leicester City and immediately began impressing in the club's youth teams.

The highly rated striker made the breakthrough into Nigel Pearson’s first team squad at the start of the 2013/14 campaign, appearing in Capital One Cup victories over Carlisle United and Derby County.

An unfortunate stress fracture on his leg kept him out for much of the campaign however, until he made his return to action for Steve Beaglehole’s Development Squad – scoring a number of important goals to help them secure a top-six finish.

A hard working and versatile forward with a fearsome left foot, Hopper made his Leicester City debut as a substitute for David Nugent in a 2-0 FA Cup win at home to Swindon Town in January 2012, before a successful loan spell with Bury the following season.

The striker made 22 appearances for the Gigg Lane side, scoring three times before figuring for Nigel Pearson’s first team in a number of friendlies during the following pre-season – often at centre half.

Hopper was also a key player in the Hong Kong Soccer 7s tournament of 2013, which City’s Development Squad went on to win after beating Newcastle United in the final.
