The Iron can confirm that striker Tom Hopper has returned to his parent club Leicester City.
Hopper suffered a broken toe as well as scoring two goals in the 4-1 away victory at Leyton Orient back in January, with him subsequently playing in the succeeding games carrying the injury. He has since been recovering from the setback, but will now need an operation to correct the breakage, meaning he is likely to miss the remainder of the season. The decision was then taken to cancel the remainder of his loan.
“Unfortunately, he’s not been able to overcome this injury,” Mark Robins told The Iron Player on Thursday lunchtime.
“We gave him a rest and shut him down for three weeks in the hope that there would be a union in the bone and there hasn’t been. We tried him yesterday and it is still no good.
“It’s disappointing because he’s tried and he wanted to carry on and unfortunately that’s not the case. We’ve lost him and it’s a blow for us.
“I’d like to thank him for what he’s done while he’s been with us. It’s really unfortunate for him because he was someone who came in and led the line really well. He’s also contributed some goals as well.
“He broke his toe in the Leyton Orient game and still scored two goals. After that he couldn’t really train, but he could play but then it got hard for him.”
He added: “Like I say, he goes back to Leicester and I just hope that he recovers well and everything will be alright.”
The club would like to place on record thanks for Tom’s efforts while at the football club, wish him a speedy recovery and all the best for the future.
