HOPPER OFF THE MARK

3 August 2015

Iron striker Tom Hopper says he's delighted to get off the mark for his new club.

Hopper scored twice as United defeated Lincoln City on penalties to progress to the Lincolnshire Senior Cup final, after the game had initially finished in a 2-2 draw.

"I'm delighted personally and as a team to get the two goals," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"I've wanted one all of pre-season and thankfully they've come at the right time."

The striker did concede however that the Iron will need to improve ahead of the visit to Burton next weekend.

"We're disappointed with the two goals that we conceded," he said.

"It's maybe what we needed and a wake-up call ahead of next week."

United were looking comfortable after Hopper had given them a commanding two goal advantage early on in the first half.

"We took our foot off the pedal in the second half, but we know where we went wrong and we'll try to put that right," he explained.

"It's a different test to what we've had, but we're going to come up against sides like that and we've got to learn to handle it."

He does though feel that the side are in a good place going into next week's opener against the League Two newcomers.

"We'll prepare well for Burton, we know what we've got coming but we'll deal with them," he said.

"It's good to get a winning habit going and we've got a winning mentality now."
