HOME DRAW FOR YOUTHS

18 August 2012

The Iron's juniors drew 2-2 with their Lincoln City counterparts at Barton Town on Saturday morning.

Scunthorpe nearly scored from the kick-off as Jamie Wootton was played through one-on-one, but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

United went a goal up after 16 minutes when an excellent diagonal ball from Fabio Snow found George Grayson, whose excellent cross found Wootton at the far post - and City's left-back turned the ball into his own goal under pressure.

The visitors levelled on 70 minutes when Luke Hornsey lost the ball midway through his own half as he tried to turn. As United looked to play the ball out of defence, City broke and scored.

Wootton headed against the post and Hakeem Adelakun rattled the crossbar before the away team went 2-1 up in the 71st minute.

That came when a right-wing cross gave Lincoln a free header at the near post.

However, Scunthorpe levelled four minutes later from the penalty spot through Adelakun after Grayson was brought down.

"Although the game ended in a draw, we didn't play to the level that we are capable of," said youth development officer Tony Daws.

"We felt our passing and movement was not as good as it can be and that our general all-round play was below the standard we have set.

"We were disappointed with the goals that we conceded.

"It's still early season though, so there is lots for us to work on."
