HENDERSON KEEN TO GET STARTED

3 August 2015

Scunthorpe United striker Darius Henderson says he and his team-mates are eager to get started, with the new campaign less than a week away.

Henderson was speaking after a much changed Iron side defeated Notts County 2-1 at Meadow Lane on Friday night, with the new signing getting his first goal for the club.

"The boys have been brilliant and we're all raring to go," he told The Iron PlayerHD.

"We're all together here and hopefully it'll show in this coming year."

Despite getting on the scoresheet for the first time in a United shirt, Henderson was keen to stress that fitness is the most important aspect of pre-season.

"The fitness side of things is most important, but I'm confident that the goals will follow," he stated.

"We have to make sure we're ready for Burton, we've got no points yet."

The new signing did however highlight how picking up wins in pre-season bodes well for the upcoming campaign.

"We want to get into winning habits and that's what we're going to have to do if we're going to push for promotion," he said.

The game at Meadow Lane was a highly charged encounter, with neither side holding back when it came to challenges, but the Iron striker says that's exactly how every game should be played.

"I think it's important to play at that intensity," he stated.

"Both sides approached the game in the correct manner and it was a good game, one which I'm sure the supporters appreciated."

Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, Henderson says he's very positive about what lies ahead.

"I'm very optimistic for the season ahead with Scunthorpe," he said.

"The gaffer and Ned have done a fantastic job to bring in the players they have.

"We're all very upbeat and positive."
