HAKEEB CONFIDENT HEADING INTO WALSALL

28 August 2014

Hakeeb Adelakun said the side will take confidence following their display against Championship side Reading in the Capital One cup second round.

Jake Taylor scored the winner for the visitors five minutes from time to give Nigel Adkins a 1-0 victory on his return to Glanford Park with the Royals, despite the Iron dominating for a majority of the game.

Adelakun was pleased with the display from Scunthorpe and believes they should take the performance into the league against Walsall on Saturday.

"We can take a lot of confidence from the game," Adelakun told The Iron Player.

"Reading did well last season. They have a good team. On Tuesday night we did well to go against that.

"We kept them on the backfoot, pressured them a lot and made them uncomfortable in the game.

"They even changed their formation to fit us so it was good.

"It was good to have a lot of possession in the game. We kept them on the back foot. Just unlucky about the result. The manager is happy with the performance."

He continued: "There is a lot to take back from the last two games. The passing and possession.

"If we can keep the ball a lot against Walsall, keep them on the backfoot and pressure them, we just need to take our chances.

"We need to keep the ball moving. Attack them and and hopefully finish off our chances."

Adelakun impressed off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Yeovil last Saturday and earned himself a place in the starting line-up against Reading.

The winger received both man of the match awards after the defeat and admitted that he is pleased with his recent performances.

He said: "I hope to make an impact and do what I can to help the team.

"I got the ball a lot on Tuesday and had a fair few chances to get at the full-back, so hopefully I did enough.

"The full-backs in League One (as opposed to League Two) are smarter, some are quicker, some are stronger. It's something new to me so hopefully I will take it in my stride.

"It's pleasing to get recognition from the fans with the man of the match. I've been waiting for a while so I was delighted to get it on Tuesday."
