Iron assistant Ned Kelly is confident United can win at Fleetwood on Tuesday, and hopes the team could find the clinical edge seen in previous matches.
United drew 1-1 with Yeovil on Saturday and Kelly was frustrated that they could not find a second goal, but was looking forward to Tuesday’s game.Kelly told The Iron Player: “The lads are brilliant and are a really good group, confidence is fine.
“We've had a look at the DVD of the game and it was just that little bit of cutting edge in the final third was what let us down at times.
“I thought the players showed really good endeavour and spirit to get back in the game.
“Sometimes it's difficult when teams come here and park the bus, you've got to be a bit more patient and we just didn't have that little bit more quality in the final third to get the second goal.”
Heading into the trip to Fleetwood, Kelly was expecting a good game between the two sides and was hoping to see the Iron start on the front foot.
Fleetwood lost to Chesterfield at the weekend and the Iron assistant believed that would make it even more of an interesting spectacle, with both sides keen to return to winning ways.
He said: “Any game we always look to win and we always try to be positive, on the front foot and try and put our ideas across to the team and for the team to take it onto the pitch.
“We will look to beat them, they're a good team and the pitch is fantastic so it lends itself to good footballing game. They've got some decent players and we're looking to be really positive.
“They'll be smarting a bit from a disappointing result at the weekend at Chesterfield; apparently they played quite well and were a little bit unfortunate.
“What Graham Alexander’s going to do with his team, we're hopefully going to be ready for and we're looking forward to a good game.”
Defender Marcus Williams missed the game against Yeovil with a back problem that forced him off against Barnsley in the previous game, with new loan signing Conor Townsend taking his place.
Kelly was hopeful that Williams would return for the trip to Fleetwood, but was impressed with the contribution of Hull loanee Townsend, who made his debut on Saturday.
He said: “Marcus is still a bit stiff so we'll assess him in the morning to see whether he is fit to travel. I thought Conor did well considering he didn't know anyone when he got here.
“He was thrown in at the deep end a bit, but credit to him and his standing at Hull. He's got to know the people around him and I thought he did excellent. He's an exciting talent and we are happy to have him.”
The Iron assistant also confirmed that David Mirfin would have a chat with the management team in the coming days to sort out his short term future.
Mirfin has been on loan at Hartlepool and Kelly said that they were pleased with the defender’s progress and would sit down and work out the next step.
Kelly said: “The gaffer's going to have a chat with Mirf and see what's best for both parties. In the next couple of days they'll sit down and have a chat.
“We've had people watching him, as we have with all the other lads who are out on loan at different clubs, so we're aware with what's been going on and they've been quite happy with them and he's been happy as well.
“The idea of sending him out was to get him playing so they'll have sit down and work out what's best moving forward.”
