GARY WANTS TO KEEP ENJOYING HIS FOOTBALL

30 June 2015

Iron winger Gary McSheffrey wants to continue enjoying his football now he's signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The 32-year-old secured his future on Monday, extending an 18-month stay at Glanford Park.

"It's nice to sign again. I just want to enjoy my football," the former Coventry man told BBC Radio Humberside's Sports Talk programme.

"I enjoy it here and that was what swayed my decision.

"It was where I always wanted to be at. Myself, the manager, my agent and the chairman had a few discussions and it all got sorted in the end.

"I had a meeting with the manager after the last game of the season and he made it clear he wanted me here and they'd offer me something.

"Every club is in a position where they can take their time because there are that many good players out there."

McSheffrey notched ten goals last season, claiming 18 assists, and he wants to help take the Iron onwards and upwards as they look to compete at the top end of the division.

He added: "After a few days discussing it, and conversations, it was finally sorted.

"I agreed it all last week with the manager.

"There was a lot of interest. There were clubs who asked me to train with them during pre-season but for me it was important to sign here.

"I've enjoyed my 18 months here and am at a stage where I can continue to enjoy my football."
