FRESH AND RARING TO GO

16 February 2016

Joint caretaker manager Nick Daws says the Iron will be ‘fresh and raring to go’ as United prepare for Tuesday night’s away clash at Millwall.

Scunthorpe arrive into the game buoyed by three wins in succession, and the manner of Saturday’s 1-0 victory over play-off contenders Southend pleased supporters and club personnel alike.

“We were delighted with the performance at the weekend. It was as good as it’s been so far for us in the three games,“ Daws told The Iron PlayerHD.

“We’re massively looking forward to this game against a Millwall side who are up there doing really well and in great form. It will be a difficult challenge but one we’re certainly ready for.

“Preparation hasn’t really been different. The only thing is we, as staff, started looking at Millwall a bit earlier than we normally would do. So while we were preparing for Southend we looked at footage and scout reports relating to Millwall a little bit earlier too.

“Ultimately it’s about what we do. If we play like we did at the weekend it doesn’t matter who we play, because we proved we could adapt to the different formations Southend put at us based on how we were playing.”

Paddy Madden celebrates the winning goal against Southend on Saturday.

With the weekend victory following up a superb 2-1 away win at promotion candidates Coventry City, Daws hopes his and Andy Dawson’s side can build on the recent run of results at the Den on Tuesday night.

He said: “Until recently most of our wins had tended to be against sides in and around us, or in the bottom half of the league in the table. Although, having said that, our best performance of the season to a point was at Gillingham (in October), and we should have won that handsomely but didn’t.

“We’ve started beating sides in the top half, and now have Millwall on Tuesday night. It’s important we do our job right and if we perform to our maximum we’re capable of winning football matches.

“We did a game preparation session on Monday and travelled on that afternoon to Millwall, preparing right for the game. Millwall are in the same situation though, having had a game at the weekend too. The boys are fresh and raring to go, and we’ll make sure they recover right for Tuesday’s game.”
