EXETER v IRON - WE'VE MET BEFORE

24 April 2014

The Iron will be looking to avenge their 4-0 home defeat to Exeter City from earlier in the season this Saturday.

Prior to that, the last time we met, this was a League One fixture, where the Iron came out victorious.

Three of the last five games have been draws between the two sides. One 0-0 and two 1-1 draws.

Scunthorpe have only lost three of their last 16 league meetings against Exeter, winning eight and drawing four.

Parkin winner…

When these two teams met in April 2012, it was a huge three points up for grabs for both sides in order to keep their league two status.

With six games remaining until the end of the season, every game was vital and every point brought the side closer to safety.

A 1-0 victory for Scunthorpe at Glanford Park sealed the points that not only contributed towards their league survival, but put Exeter in even more trouble down in the relegation zone.

Jon Parkin came off the bench to score the winner in a game which saw Scunthorpe extend their unbeaten run to nine league games and move seven points adrift from the drop zone.

The Iron finished the season nine points above the relegation zone, meanwhile Exeter finished 23rd and subsequently found themselves playing League Two football in the 2012/2013 season.

Goals galore…
In the 2001/02 season, there were plenty of goals across the two fixtures. 11 goals were scored in total, seven from Scunthorpe and four from Exeter.

The first fixture of the season saw Scunthorpe come out at 4-0 winners away from home in the early games of the season. Two goals from Martin Carruthers and one each from Kim Grant and Carl Bradshaw saw the Iron comfortable take the three points.

It was a different story in the however in the return fixture. Exeter came out as 4-3 winners at Glanford Park, with an injury time goal from Andy Roscoe claiming all three points for the Grecians.

Jamie McCombe put the Iron 1-0 before three goals from Exeter appeared to have put the visitors in control.

Scunthorpe pulled off what looked like an incredible comeback after a penalty from Peter Beagrie and then a 90th minute equaliser from Brian Quailey.

But Exeter took the win when Roscoe scored deep into injury time.
