Ahead of this weekend’s clash at Peterborough United, Iron manager Mark Robins has insisted that the team will concentrate on the things they’re capable of doing.
The Posh are currently fourth in the League One table and looking for a second successive top six finish under the guidance of Darren Ferguson.Scunthorpe are unbeaten in their last two away trips and Robins believes the key to picking up a positive result will be to make the most of any opportunities they create.
He told The Iron Player: “They’re all tough, there are no easy games.
“I think we’ve seen that week in, week out but we’ll focus on us and what we can be capable of doing and go and enjoy this game.
“We speak about opportunities every week and we’ve got to make sure that we make the most of some of these opportunities.”
United drew the first two games of Robins’ tenure before narrowly losing 1-0 against Notts County at Glanford Park last Saturday, despite creating the majority of the chances.
The boss has praised the impact the fans had on the team during that match and acknowledges that the supporters have a big role to play.
“I think the players have shown that they’re comfortable playing in front of the home support,” he continued.
“As I’ve said before, the supporters play their part and they did on Saturday.
“I thought they were excellent. They got behind the team all the way through the game and even when we went 1-0 down at the end, they still cheered us on.
“They always play a big part and I think they played a big role on Saturday and the players responded with a decent performance.”
Robins was in attendance as Scunthorpe’s reserves beat Burton Albion 6-0 at St George’s Park on Monday afternoon with a number of players impressing.
And he admits that that performance and result gives him plenty of food for thought going into the Peterborough test this Saturday.
He added: “It gives me food for thought but it also gives me an indication as to decisions that I have to make on players as well – good and bad.
“I’ll continue to do that because every time I watch them play and train, I’m looking for somebody to show me a spark.
“Everybody is giving me everything that they have.”
