ENJOY MYSELF AND SCORE GOALS FOR THE TEAM

9 February 2016

Fresh from signing on an initial 28-day loan, forward Greg Luer is looking forward to getting started with the Iron.

The Hull City loanee took knowledge from Conor Townsend, who made a permanent switch from the Tigers last month, after learning the move to Scunthorpe was on. He's been told to enjoy himself while with the Iron by caretaker duo Andy Dawson and Nick Daws and has a personal target of making sure he finds the back of the net.

“I heard a few rumours for a couple of months,” he told The Iron PlayerHD.

“I missed the first loan window and then obviously the emergency loan window has opened. I think Daws’ brother (Andy Dawson’s brother, Michael) has spoken with Andy and they must’ve seen me play a few times.

“Conor (Townsend) is here and he said that there’s a good bunch of lads here. It’s a good club moving the right way, so it was a good move for me. It eases me in a lot easier by knowing him. I’ve played against a few of the lads before in under-21’s games as well.”

Luer joined up with his new teammates for the first time on Tuesday and enjoyed his first training session with United ahead of Saturday’s home match against Southend United.

His aim while with the Iron is clear; to help the side by providing and scoring goals and aid his own progression along the way.

“It was a good session to be fair,” he continued.

“It was at a good intensity and at a good standard. I’ve been brought in to run in behind, hold the ball up and get a few goals to help the team. If I can do that, it will be a bonus to both me and the team.

“I’ve always had a good touch and I know how to use my body. That’s hopefully what they’ve seen of me and that’s what I want to bring here. I’ve developed really fast (at Hull City) and I’ve gone from training with the under-21’s to training with the first team everyday."

So far this season, the 21-year-old has made six appearances for Hull City, including two goals in the Capital One Cup ties against Accrington Stanley and Rochdale respectively.

“I got a chance in the League Cup due to injuries and I took my chances when I got them,” he continued.

“Scoring goals for them was literally the best feeling and I’d love to do that here as well. Hopefully this loan spell will show what I can do in a first team environment and hopefully push Scunthorpe up the table which will be good for both clubs and myself as well.

“Playing under-21’s football doesn’t really prepare you for the men’s football, so when I get my chances I have to take them. Andy (Dawson) and Nick (Daws) have told me to come here and enjoy myself, while hopefully scoring some goals.”

See much more from new-signing Greg Luer, along with pre-match previews from Andy Dawson, Jamie Ness and David Mirfin on The Iron PlayerHD later this week.
