DEVELOPMENT SIDE WIN AT ROTHERHAM

6 October 2015

The Iron's development team recorded a 2-0 win at Rotherham United on Tuesday afternoon.

Scunthorpe put out a mostly youthful side, but saw Luke Williams make a return from a medial knee ligament injury picked up on the opening day of the season at Burton.

Rotherham were given a penalty on three minutes when the ball was played into the area and there was a shirt pull.

Jerry Yates stepped up to take the penalty, and Joe Anyon dived the right way, but the spot-kick went wide of the target.

Emmanuel Ledesma then saw an effort saved by Anyon shortly after as the Millers chased an early lead.

Scunthorpe had their first chance on 13 minutes, with Jack Dyche heading wide after a free-kick from Williams found him.

Shortly after, Anyon was called into action again - palming over an effort from Ledesma.

The Iron went ahead in the 21st minute through an own goal by Bradley Peace-McDonald. Superb work on the right from Kyle Wootton saw him fire in a low cross which the Millers man converted into his own net, with Williams lurking.

Yates was soon denied by Anyon shortly after, with the Iron shotstopper touching the ball over the crossbar.

Jordan Bowery then fired two shots wide for the hosts, before Williams came close with a lobbed effort over Adam Collin.

Anyon was drawn into a further stop from Ledesma, with Bowery hitting the post from the rebound.

Early in the second half, Adelakun drew a sharp stop from Collin, before then stinging his hands with a powerful drive.

Scunthorpe continued to press, with Dyche feeding Wootton and the latter forcing a stop from the Millers goalkeeper.

Williams then drew another save from Collin with a free-kick from 25 yards out.

63 minutes in, Williams made way for Noel Burdett after completing an hour in his comeback from injury.

Adelakun then let rip from the left wing, 30 yards from goal forcing Collin to palm the ball around the post for a corner.

On 74 minutes, Adelakun made it two for the Iron, turning on the spin from the left with a shot using his weaker foot. Collin couldn't get a touch.

As the game reached a conclusion, Levi Sutton drew a save from Collin with an effort from the edge of the box.

Iron team: Anyon, McMichael, Butroid, Sutton, Baker, Goode, Adelakun, Trialist A, Wootton, Williams (Burdett, 63), Dyche (Bunting, 71).
