Iron boss Mark Robins was pleased with his side’s performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Yeovil, but called for them to show a clinical edge in front of goal.
The United manager felt his side were superb against the relegation threatened Glovers and believed that United could have won the game, despite falling behind midway through the first half.Hakeeb Adelakun levelled the game for the Iron just five minutes after coming on and Robins was particularly pleased with the impact the winger had.
Robins told The Iron Player: “Sometimes substitutions work and sometimes they don't work, but he's got some good qualities and hopefully he can show those more often than not.
“We got the ball into a good area, he's made something of it and got a good shot away and it's gone in the back of the net.
“For us it just gave us that little bit of a boost, but we just didn't capitalise enough on any of the other chances we created to get the three points again.”
Iron striker Paddy Madden had a great chance to get United level before half time, but was unable to take his effort against his former side.
Robins was confident that the Irish striker would put the miss behind him and continue to do what he has done so often this season.
He said: “When you score goals it is always a boost. He's been very good for us this season and that will continue, but we'll just put this one behind us and move on.
“You wouldn't back against Paddy scoring another 8 or 10 goals before the end of the season.”
The Iron boss was generally pleased with the efforts of his side against Yeovil, but felt that his side needed to be more clinical in front of goal.
“I think from back to front the quality was great and I thought there were some good balls going into the penalty area and then when it went in we were on our heels,” said the Iron boss.
“That's only something you can work on and obviously we have games coming thick and fast and at the moment we are coping with a really heavy programme. From our perspective, it's back to rest and recovery for another Tuesday away trip.”
Robins was hopeful that he may be able to welcome back Marcus Williams for Tuesday’s game against Fleetwood, but was pleased to see Conor Townsend join the club on loan.
The defender joins the Iron from Hull and will be with the club for a month, and Robins was delighted to be able to welcome the youngster to his side.
He said: “Marcus got injured on Tuesday night and hopefully he will be ready for Tuesday night again. He's improved, but not significantly enough to get him back into the team today.
“We needed someone to come in and Conor's got a decent pedigree and plenty of promise for the future.
“With Hull being our near neighbours and also Conor's been out on loan before, so he's got some games under his belt. I thought there were some good things from him today.
“He got forward pretty well and did well, but to be fair he's only met his team mates yesterday and he'd only met them after we'd finished training.
“We've got to thank Steve Bruce for letting us borrow him and we look forward to his stay with us.”
