CONFIDENT OF A QUICK RESPONSE

11 August 2015

Iron manager Mark Robins says he remains extremely confident in his players as he looks for a quick response in Tuesday night's Capital One Cup tie with Barnsley.

The season’s first competitive match at Glanford Park comes in the cup competition and gives Scunthorpe an opportunity to bounce back just three days after their opening day defeat to Burton Albion.

Robins was disappointed with his side’s performance on Saturday and believes they are capable of much better.

He said: “We know exactly what we need to do and what we want to do but we didn’t do it on Saturday.

"For whatever reason we were a little bit laboured with our passing, so credit to Burton for that, but we know that we are better than that and we have the experience to turn that type of performance into a better one and from now we will endeavour to do just that.

"I’m confident in the players, I’m confident in what we have done in pre-season and the signs are there that we can have a really good impact on this division.”

After Luke Daniels’ sending off in the season opener, Robins reacted by bringing in an extra goalkeeper on an emergency loan.

18-year-old Rory Watson has arrived from Hull City and Robins has described him as a very capable back up to Joe Anyon who now has his opportunity to stake a claim for the goalkeeping shirt.

"We’ve brought in Rory Watson in from Hull and we moved pretty quickly to get somebody in," he said.

"Obviously he’s cover for Joe Anyon but more than capable himself.

"We’re grateful to Hull for lending him to us and it’s always difficult to get a goalkeeper when it’s clear he’s not going to go straight in the team but they’ve done us a real favour there.

"Hopefully Joe will be fine but Rory is there and he is a capable deputy. Luke Daniels will be missing three games, which is just over a week because the games are coming around so quickly, but now Joe has a chance to keep the shirt.”
