Full-back Luke O’Neill spoke to The Iron Player ahead of the game against Leyton Orient and discussed the confidence in the side following the win against Coventry.
United put in a good and confident performance as they went on to the win the game 2-1, after goals from Paddy Madden and Lyle Taylor.O’Neill said that the Scunthorpe players go into the weekend’s fixture with bags of confidence after the three points at Glanford Park.
He said: “We went into that game off the back of the Chesterfield game, but we went out there and showed the fans what we are about and I think we can do the same, especially with the three points under our belt now from the Coventry game, as we go into Saturday.
“I think they (Coventry) played really deep and they tried to make it hard for us to get through. We all knew that it would be a tough game, even with ten men, because they will be up there this season."
“I felt like we did really well, Lyle put his head on it for a second goal and a winner, he did really well,” he added.
The victory against Coventry means the Iron have won their last three home games, something O’Neill believes is important ahead of another game at Glanford Park on Saturday.
O’Neill said: “The manager has believed in us at home. He pointed out to us afterwards that we haven’t lost a game at home in three now, so we just need to go into Saturday’s game full of confidence.
“I don’t think there are any easy games really in this division. We have just got to do what we did on Tuesday night. We are confident, the two strikers were fantastic for us on Tuesday night and it’s just the same again for us really.
“When you have won the game on Tuesday, it’s good to play soon on Saturday. It was a good atmosphere in training, it was sharp and hopefully we will take with us into the game on Saturday.
O’Neill spent a lot of last season on loan in League Two at York and Southend, however he is delighted to have made the step up to League One and he is happy to be playing regularly for the Iron.
“Like I said at the start, it’s about me getting games here. Especially in League One as I was in League Two last season. It’s a step up, but I feel like I am doing well and I would like to keep showing what I am about," he stated.
