United manager Mark Robins was pleased to see his reserves ease to victory, as they beat Burton Albion 6-0 at St. George’s Park on Monday afternoon.
Andy Dawson fielded a strong Iron side and Robins, who travelled down to watch the game at the Football Association’s national football centre, was impressed with the temperament shown by his players.“I think to win any game six-nil - it’s a good scoreline,” Robins reflected to The Iron Player.
“They were young, very young, I’ve got to say, but you can only beat what’s in front of you.
“Burton Albion had some spirited players and from our perspective it was a good professional performance and what you’d expect. The attitude was very good.”
Deon Burton played his first start after a calf injury and Billy Kee scored his first goal for the club, much to the delight of their manager.
“I think they are chomping at the bit and that’s what you want things to be,” he said.
“We’ve got a series of games coming up, with one game a week for a little while, where they can really stake a claim to try break into the team.”
Notts County scored late at Glanford Park on Saturday to steal the full three points after United had shared the better chances, missing the chance to go four unbeaten, and Robins is keen to see his side start a winning run.
“We’re still looking to bring a series of wins up, whereas the Gillingham win was followed by draws which could easily have been wins,” he added.
“Even against Notts County, it was a game we could have and should have won.
“We were unfortunate not to get at least a point out of the game and nobody would have battered an eyelid if we had won the game. Plenty of people at the game will have looked at it and wondered how we didn’t win it, never mind drawing.”
