BOSS STILL EXPECTS DUFFY TO DEPART

8 July 2013

United boss Brian Laws has admitted that he is as baffled as anyone regarding the transfer saga regarding winger Mark Duffy.

The 27-year-old had widely been expected to leave Glanford Park last week, with Doncaster Rovers his likely new home.

However in a deal or no deal transfer saga with more twists than a Alfred Hitchcock movie, the Iron boss admits he is as in the dark as the rest of the world as to what the climax will be.

He told The Iron Player: “We thought that everything was sorted out that end, but now it seems that there are one or two things standing in the way of the deal.

“Sometimes that is the way with these things and deals take a little bit longer than they should for whatever reason.”

After having two bids for the former Morecambe man, who arguably was one of the Iron’s star players last term, chairman Peter Swann revealed in the middle of last week that the club had accepted an offer and that the player was free to talk to the Championship club.

However, despite problems at the 11th hour, the Iron boss has admitted that he does not expect Duffy back at Glanford Park.

“Technically he is still a Scunthorpe United player but if I am honest I am not expecting him back,” Laws explained.

“As far as we are aware nothing has been clarified in that sense, but being realistic, which we have to be, I don’t expect him back.”
