Iron boss Mark Robins hopes to see an impressive performance from his side in Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie.
Robins confirmed he would look to utilise his squad in the first round clash with Barnsley, but was keen to see his side progress in the competition.The Iron head into the game after drawing 2-2 with Colchester, and the United boss felt his players would bounce back from the disappointment of letting a two-goal lead slip.
Robins told The Iron PlayerHD: “The players look alright and they get over things quickly, so the disappointment will have gone and we look forward to the game on Tuesday.
“I think playing them so soon after we played them last time, it should be a good game.
“They come in on the back of a 3-0 defeat so we're coming up against teams with points to prove.
“We've got to try and inflict as much as we can on our opponents and limit their chances."
The Iron boss was frustrated to see his side squander a 2-0 lead on Saturday, but he felt that there were still plenty of positives to take.
He said: “Going back to Saturday, it was disappointing because we have come away and it feels like a defeat.
“I've watched it back though and various aspects look really good. We have to remain in possession for longer when we win it back really, and not gift goals to our opponents.
“We have to stop it because it's unacceptable, and remain true to our principles.”
Robins confirmed that there were no new injury worries ahead of the JPT tie, with only his long-term absentees unavailable for selection.
The Iron boss hoped to use the tie as a chance to give some of his fringe players to work their way into his first team plans.
Robins said: “People came through the game on Saturday okay, but I will look to make one or two changes to get some fresh legs into the team.
“I also want to try and get through this tie. The next game is always a priority and we always want to win every game.
“I want to give people opportunities to stake a claim to be in the team and get closer to the team.
“You have to play six that played in the previous game, but I want to see some players get some minutes.”
