Iron manager Mark Robins had praise for midfielder Gary McSheffrey, but frustrated his side were unable to keep a clean sheet and see the game out in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Coventry.
The former Sky Blues man scored a brilliant free-kick in the first half to put the Iron in the lead, but Marcus Tudgay secured a point for the hosts in the last minute.
The Iron boss was full of praise for McSheffrey, not only for his spectacular goal, but also for the impact he had on the game.
Robins told The Iron Player: “He’s worked hard in the gym and has built himself up and got a bit of strength about him.
“He's always had a bit of pace and he's strengthened up a little bit and looks a decent player.
“Tonight he was up for the game, I mean you're always up for the game, but tonight it was slightly different and he was a little bit more tuned in.
“It was a brilliant goal, one of the best I’ve seen. He's capable of that and has been like that all of his career.
“I think he's scored a number of goals here at the Ricoh and it would have been fitting had he scored that one and it won us the game. It just wasn't to be.
“I thought they took their equaliser well, but it's a shame that we've afforded it to him.”
McSheffrey will miss the next two matches though as he picked up his tenth booking of the season, triggering a suspension and frustrating Robins.
The Iron boss was hopeful of getting a new face in on loan before Saturday’s game, with Jacob Murphy returning to Norwich last week as well.
Robins said: “I need a loan space and a loan option open. Jacob's done absolutely nothing wrong in fairness, he would have been an asset, but needs must.
“I had to make a decision based on the fact that at some point I'm going to have to do something else in another position where we may have an injury.
“It depends if the right one becomes available. I know who I'd like to bring in, but I've got to wait and see if we can actually do it. If we can't then I won't.”
The Iron manager was keen to continue to try and find ways to improve his side, bringing in Alex Davey for Andrew Boyce in the centre of the United defence.
Robins explained: “I wanted to bring Alex in and give him some game time and I think it was justified. I'm the manager so I will pick who I think are the right people to play.
“We've not kept a clean sheet since Forest Green so we've got a bit of work to do. I'm looking for that combination, but I've also got a number of good centre halves that are capable of performing.”
Despite the disappointment of conceding a late goal, the Iron boss was looking forward to a busy run of fixtures starting with the visit of Swindon on Saturday.
Robins said: “They're all big games and Swindon come to town, obviously at the top of the league and one of the best teams in the division.
“I think they're very fluid with their play and have some good players in their side. It's a big game, but another big game in a list of about nineteen or twenty.”
