ALEXANDER NOMINATED FOR MANAGER OF THE MONTH

4 May 2016

Iron boss Graham Alexander has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for April award.

The nomination comes following a run of results, which saw his side win five out of six matches.

The winner of the award will be announced at 6am on Friday morning.

Here is what the judging panel had to say about the four candidates:

Graham Alexander (Scunthorpe United)
After a narrow defeat to begin the month, victory over second-placed Burton Albion was the first of five successive wins which lifted Scunthorpe to the fringe of the Play-Off places and underlined Alexander’s impact since arriving at Glanford Park.

Gary Caldwell (Wigan Athletic)
Secured promotion to the Championship in his first season as a manager. A haul of 13 points from six games was underpinned by thrilling attacking play and two convincing away victories – 5-1 at Shrewsbury Town and 4-0 at Blackpool.

Phil Parkinson (Bradford City)
His steady influence helped Bradford to secure a League 1 Play-Off place. The highlight of a month in which they collected 13 points from 18 while conceding just two goals was a convincing 4-0 win over promotion rivals Walsall.

John Sheridan (Oldham Athletic)
Need a miracle worker? Call Sheridan. After reviving Newport’s League 2 fortunes in the autumn, he guided Oldham to safety in League 1. Thirteen points from seven games with the aid of four clean sheets completed the task.

The judging panel comprises of former Ipswich Town manager George Burley, Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
