A HARD-FOUGHT THREE POINTS

17 February 2015

Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins was delighted to record back-to-back wins at Glanford Park, following Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Chesterfield.

After seeing off high-flying Swindon at the weekend, the Iron followed it up with another three points against Paul Cook’s men just days later.

Second-half goals from Niall Canavan and Paddy Madden sealed the win to put United 14th in Sky Bet League One.

“It was a good win, a hard-fought three points,” Robins told The Iron Player

“I am really pleased with the manner of the win and the way we played. They did not have a great deal of the ball and we started well in the game and created a number of opening for ourselves.

“We lacked that killer instinct in the first 20 minutes of the game. They grew into it in the first half as you would expect as they have some good players.

“They created one or two openings for themselves and dragged shots wide and we were a bit at sixes and sevens with our positioning but I thought we got better.

“The goal obviously helped and it was another well taken header from Niall and it settled us down a little bit.”

It was a first clean sheet for January arrival Luke Daniels and United’s first in the league since October and it extends Robins’ positive run of results since taking the reigns at the club in October.

He stated: “Everybody knows we want to win with the run we are on and we want to maintain that and I am just pleased we stuck to our guns and kept on going.

“We strangled the game and ended up 2-0 winners and saw the game out brilliantly.

“It’s a clean sheet, our first since Forest Green (in the FA Cup), I am absolutely delighted with that and equally delighted with that as I am with the goals we scored.”

While the manager admits it was not a complete performance, he says there were plenty of positive signs from a team that has not played a whole lot of games together.

He added: “It all comes hand in hand, we made mistakes in the game at times and haven’t done things as quickly as we would have liked but they are a new group of players.

“The way they have gelled to get the results and performances of late, they are giving absolutely everything they have got and you cannot ask for anything more than that.”
