A BIG RESULT

16 February 2015

Iron manager Mark Robins hailed his side’s togetherness following Saturday’s 3-1 win over high-flying Swindon Town at Glanford Park.

The hosts trailed at the break, but second half goals from Paddy Madden, Niall Canavan and Kevin van Veen saw them collect an impressive three points.

Victory lifted United to within six points of the play-offs, and Robins told The Iron Player: “It’s a big result for us, no doubt.

“We got in their faces and made them rush things. They have really great quality in the strikers Andrew Williams and [Michael] Smith, but we dealt with them pretty well.

“They’ve got pace in the wide areas, and again we dealt with that well. We handled the threat they pose all over the pitch with some real graft and determination.

“There’s no question about the togetherness; they’re a good group, and they kick each other up the backside too when it’s needed.

“Long may that continue, because it was as good a performance as I’ve seen for a while.”

Robins also credited the club’s fan-base for their help in securing the win, adding: “We know it’s a burden on the supporters to come and watch us because of the amount of games we have.

“They’ve been following us fantastically well, and they really get behind the team. We spoke about the way Swindon play and the reaction of our support when the goalkeeper brings the ball forward.

“Initially it tempts one of our players out of the slot, which means they can play around you. I thought we held our nerve pretty well in that sense.

“In the second half it changed and they stopped doing that, and it gave us a real impetus with the way we played.”
