Iron defender Murray Wallace is targeting nothing less than three points this Saturday, when he and his teammates face Bury at Gigg Lane.
The Shakers have been somewhat of a surprise package so far this season, with them sitting in 2nd place in the standings, but Wallace believes the table doesn’t lie.
Wallace told The Iron PlayerHD: “They’ll be a good team - they’re up there for a reason.
“It’ll be nice to beat the teams which are up there challenging, and put some distance between them and us.
“Maybe it’s not one of the teams you’d have looked for at the start of the season to be up and around there, but they’ve brought in good signings. I know James Vaughan from my time at Huddersfield, and he’s a great player - so fair play to them.”
The Scot gave an insight into how preparations are going ahead of the game, and said everything is geared towards getting the best possible result on Saturday.
“We had a down-day yesterday, a light day, with us obviously recovering after Tuesday’s match,” he explained.
“We’ll go into training, do all the right things, and be ready for the game on Saturday - which as I said, will be a tough game.”
He too looked back on the resounding victory over Walsall, a victory which he felt was the best he’s experienced so far this season, in terms of an all round showing.
Scunthorpe’s swashbuckling start to the game was the most pleasing aspect of the victory in Wallace’s eyes, a start he wants to repeat on a more regular basis.
He stated: “From start to finish, without the couple of minutes just before half time, I felt it was our strongest performance. We dominated, really pressed them high, and put them under a lot of pressure throughout the whole game.”
“The previous game, against Sheffield United we perhaps weren’t at it in the first half, and we came out in the second half and really put some pressure on them.
“We were disappointed not to take the three points in the end, and I think that encouraged us, and gave us a mindset to start the game (against Walsall) right.
“If we could start every game like that, it would certainly make a defender’s job a lot easier, with us putting a couple of goals away.”
